剧情：
　　李警官（成龙饰）是全香港唯一能对付犯罪集团头目钱涛的人，在香港行政长官韩的协助下，李警官一举截获钱涛贩卖军火，毒品和文物的5亿多美元赃款，可惜却让主犯钱涛逃之夭夭。钱涛在海外纠结残部，伺机报复。恰逢韩长官赴美执行外交公务，钱涛带人在洛杉矶绑架了韩的幼女小秀。虽然美国联邦调查局一口保证他们将抓获绑架者并将小秀完璧归赵，但韩长官仍放心不下，他认为只有一个人可以解救小秀，此人便是李警官。
　　李警官与韩长官结交多年，对小秀更是呵护有加，当作自己的女儿看待。闻此噩耗后，他立刻只身飞往洛杉矶，要求联邦调查局协助破案。联邦调查局不愿外人染指案件侦破，碍于情面，他们决定让洛杉矶警察局最无能的警官詹姆斯.卡特做李的帮手。卡特自视怀才不遇，如今终于有了一次表现的机会，自然不愿放过，傲慢的他根本不把香港来的李警官入在眼里，一心想甩掉他，独揽头功。在被李警官救了一命之后，卡特才竟识到自己大大低估了这位搭档的实力。尽管两人之间仍不时有些小摩擦，但他们已经可以把全部精力用在破案上了。在女炸弹专家塔妮娅的帮助下，他们与钱涛一伙展开了一番激战，最终将犯罪分子一网打尽，安全地救出了小秀。

　　本片是成龙进入好莱坞后的第一部真正西片，影片的故事谈不上精彩，过得去而已：好莱坞警探片惯用一老一小、一黑一白、一鲁莽一老成的搭档，这次将成龙跟塔克搭配在一起，用的就是这个套路，只是更夸张罢了。
